Brake fluid is a hydraulic fluid that transmits the pressure from the master cylinder to the brake calipers or wheel cylinders. It needs to have a high boiling point to withstand the heat generated during braking.


In disc brake systems, brake calipers house the brake pads and are responsible for squeezing them against the brake rotor to create friction and slow down the vehicle.

Wheel cylinders are part of drum brake systems and are responsible for pushing the brake shoes against the drum when hydraulic pressure is applied.

Parking Brake (Handbrake):


The parking brake is a separate braking system used to keep the vehicle stationary when parked. It can act on either the rear brake shoes or the brake pads, depending on the type of braking system.

Understanding the components of the brake system is essential for proper maintenance and ensuring the safety of the vehicle. Regular inspection, brake fluid checks, and timely replacement of brake components are crucial for the reliable operation of the brake system.
