What should I focus on in my daily inspection and maintenance?

2022-10-09

Most cars use front disc rear drum brake structure, under normal circumstances, the front brake shoe wears relatively quickly, the rear brake shoe is used for a relatively long time, in the daily inspection and maintenance should focus on the following aspects:

1. Under normal driving conditions, check the brake shoes once every 5,000 kilometers, not only check the remaining thickness, but also check the state of the wear of the hooves, whether the degree of wear on both sides is the same, whether the return position is free, etc., and find that abnormal conditions must be dealt with immediately.

2. The brake shoe is generally composed of two parts: iron liner and friction material, and it must not wait for the friction material part to be worn out before replacing the hoof. For example, the front brake shoes of the Jetta car, the thickness of the new sheet is 14 mm, while the replacement limit thickness is 7 mm, which includes more than 3 mm of iron lining plate thickness and nearly 4 mm of friction material thickness. Some vehicles have a brake shoe alarm function, once the wear limit is reached, the instrument will alarm to prompt the replacement of the hoof. The hoof that has reached the limit of use must be replaced, even if it can still be used for a period of time, it will reduce the effect of braking and affect the safety of driving.
3. When replaced, the brake pads provided by the original spare parts should be replaced, only in this way can the braking effect between the brake pads and the brake disc be the best and wear is minimal.
4. When replacing the hoof, special tools must be used to push the brake sub-pump back. It cannot be pressed back hard with other crowbars, which can easily cause the brake caliper guide screw to bend and make the brake pad stuck.
5. After replacing the hoof, be sure to step on the brakes a few feet to eliminate the gap between the hoof and the brake disc, resulting in no brake on the first foot, prone to accidents.
6. After the brake shoe is replaced, it needs to be run in 200 kilometers to achieve the best braking effect, and the newly replaced shoe must be driven cautiously.
